CNA Certification
The work of Certified Nursing Assistants is to provide basic nursing care to their patients. They are trained professionally to disburse their medical duties. Generally, CNAs are supervised by registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. In order to become a CAN you need to get a CNA Certification from a state recognized training school. CNA Certification programs are generally conducted by vocational or community colleges.
The CNA certification training program is open to individuals who have completed a high school diploma. Other requirements, even though they vary from one state to another, include undergoing physical examination, presenting record of immunizations and a clearance for TB. In some schools a background check is also carried out in order to confirm the eligibility.
Generally, an individual is required to complete a training period of minimum 75 hours in order to complete the CNA Certification. The initial phase of the CNA certification program introduces the trainee to the responsibilities that he/she is required to be taking-up once he/she becomes a certified nursing assistant. In addition to all the responsibilities, the trainee is also given the details of the liability imposed on him/her under the law along with the disciplinary actions that can be imposed. They are also taught the reporting line to be followed with proper information about the chain of command.
Once the CNA Certification program is completed and you have completed the two examinations, you are required to register with your state. This step makes you to be placed on the list of the state registry of certified nursing assistants.
Once you are successful in taking the CNA Certification and enter the profession, your career does not stop being just a CNA. You can also undergo a number of other training programs like in the field of patient rights, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS and CPR skills, or into continuing your education. The importance of continuing your training and education is to remain updated with the latest developments in the field. In case you fail to do so, you are likely to let changing technology to make your knowledge obsolete.
CNA Certification program is attractive due to the opportunity of advancement offered by it. Even though there are many other vocational training programs, but most of them are liable to make your career stagnant at one or other point.
Generally a CNA Certification program costs an average of around $1500 and sometimes you may be able to apply for some grants from the school or to the federal government. Program provides training on practical as well as theoretical aspects. As a CNA trainee you need to work around the patients, under the supervision of a LPN or a registered nurse. The examination towards CNA Certification consists of two parts. The theoretical section tests you with the procedures, while the practical section tests your skills under real situations.
